Start stocking up on glowsticks, the folks at Electric Forest Festival have released the (initial) lineup for year two of their ragerific festival:

For any n00b unfamiliar with the festival, here are some brief deets:

EF is a four day event in Rothbury, MI, former site of the now defunct/legendary Rothbury Festival.  2011 was it’s inaugural year, and the venue is essentially a giant forest.  At night it is truly surreal, the forest literally glows in the dark, I’ve never seen anything like it before.

Plus there are sweet hammocks everywhere in case your brain has melted too much from all the hardcore jams.

There is also a lake, tons of art, a plethora of food venders, and a bunch of crazy little enclaves of cool hidden treasures throughout the forest.

To sum up this brief history, here’s a fun fact: Electric Forest Festival was put together by the dudes of String Cheese Incident, and they play 3 complete sets over the weekend.

Now hold up, I know what some of you youngsters might be thinking:

“Who the fuck are these Cottage Cheese geezers?  I thought this was an electro fest, I wanna melt my face off to some grimey dubstep!  Is that a GUITAR?!  So 2008.”

Hold your horses young bucks, there will be plenty of face melting to go around.  Don’t you dare skip these SCI sets, for they are epic.  Last year’s sets included gigantic floating dinosaurs, crazy glow-y balloons, insanely crunchy jams, and… A FREAKIN’ JETPACK!

Yeah, you read that right, these dudes incorporated a jetpack into their set.  Who’s hardcore now, Skrillex?  Aw, you’ve got a little light show?  Yeah, that’s cool I guess, except that jetpacks let you FLY!

[Side Note: did you know Skrillex used to be the frontman for an emo band?  That hideous haircut makes a lot more sense now, doesn't it little Timmy?]

But I digress, the bottom line here is that a schedule has been released, and to tell you the truth I’m not hatin’ it.  Another 3 sets of SCI, I think you know my position on that.  Bassnectar? That should make the kids happy.  Two sets of STS9? Theivery Corporation? Girl Talk? Santigold? EOTO? Oh yeah, give it to me baby.  I’m basically just repeating the lineup here, but I just keep picturing these guys in the forest, and I love it (everything’s better in the forest).

Yeah, it’s pretty electro-heavy, but it’s called ELECTRIC Forest Festival.  What did you expect?  But even if that’s not your thing, there are plenty of other types of music going on as well.  The Infamous Stringdusters are an amazing bluegrass band, and Elephant Revival ain’t bad either.  Das Racist is your weird indie rap group that are just as likely to make a statement as to be, well, just one huge joke.  Oh, and not to keep talking them up, but when it comes to jam bands, SCI jams harder than pretty much anyone other than Phish.  Keep in mind that this is the “initial” lineup too, there could very well be some solid additions coming soon.

So, if you haven’t already gotten your ticket, do so here ASAP (and check out the galleries if you’re not yet sold).  Right now they are on tier 3 of the 4 tiered pricing system, so there are still some (marginal) savings to be had.  Even if you don’t know/care for all the bands, the forest makes it an unforgettable experience.
